The Parasaurolophus is an electronic dinosaur from the The Lost World: Jurassic Park toy line. Sadly, in my opinion, the dinosaur has just one flaw. One of its legs sticks weirdly out to the back (not shown on the pictures) to make it look like its running. However this makes it very difficult to make it stand on its own. By pushing the button on the back, the dinosaur will make its iconic trumpet sound and it kicks the weird standing leg forward. If there was something that Kenner REALLY owned back in the 80’s and early 90’s, it must have been their amazing box artwork. I vividly remember staring at these boxes in the toy store and see those scenes come to live in my mind. Compstegnathus is part of the Chaos Effect line which was released in 1998 after the succes of The Lost World: Jurassic Park. It featured hybrid dinosaurs that were created by mixing the DNA of different species (Jurassic World anyone?). The design of most new sculpts look very sleek, smooth and very colourful. It’s rumoured there was supposed to be a Chaos Effect animated television series, which might explain the cartoon-like look of this toy line. This Jurassic Park toy ad appeared in a brochure for a supermarket chain called GB (now part of the Carrefour group). It was released right before the holiday shopping in 1993. Anyway, I still remember flipping through that brochure and just being stunned by that photo. For today’s standards it looks *meh*, but when I was a kid I just could see myself building the same backdrop, put some houseplants and throw some dirt on the floor to get the same set up (but I never did). The Dino Tracker Adventure Set was released in 1997 as a Walmart exclusive in the United States. It’s part of the The Lost World – Jurassic Park line and it features the relatively unknown creatures Estemmenosuchus (yes, that is a spelling error on the package) and Scutosaurus. Both were actually planned to be released in 1994 as part of the Jurassic Park series II toy line, but sadly this never happened.
