A beginner’s guide for collecting Jurassic Toys

Posted on Leave a comment

If you’re a starting collector of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World toys, you may be wondering which items are worth investing in. While it’s impossible to predict which items will appreciate in value, there are a few factors that can make a toy more valuable over time.

First, rarity is an important factor. Toys that were produced in limited quantities or were only available for a short period of time are often more valuable than toys that were mass-produced. Second, the condition of the toy is also important. Toys that are in mint condition and still in their original packaging are more valuable than toys that have been played with or opened. Opening your (vintage) toys will significantly reduce its value.

With that in mind, here are a few Jurassic Park and Jurassic World toys that may be worth investing in:

Original Kenner Jurassic Park Toys

The Kenner line of Jurassic Park toys was released to coincide with the release of the first movie. These toys were incredibly popular at the time and are still sought after by collectors today, especially in its original packaging. Some of the most valuable items in this line include the Electronic Tyrannosaurus Rex and most of the series II dinosaurs like Gallimimus and Carnotaurus.

Jurassic Park Vehicles

In addition to the action figures, many Jurassic fans have a soft spot for the vehicles that have appeared in the movies. They are often as iconic as the dinosaurs themselves. The Jurassic Park Jungle Explorer in its original packaging is usually selling for high numbers on auction sites, but complete sets are also sought after like the Mobile Command Center from The Lost World and the Humvee.

Recent Jurassic World toys

Mattel’s Jurassic World Legacy and Hammond Collections includes figures from both the original Jurassic Park trilogy and the newer Jurassic World movies. These are often released in limited qualities or for special occasions like Comic-Con. Some of the most hard to find figures and sets include the recent Hammond Collection Outhouse Chaos set, the 2019 Ian Malcolm & Velociraptor story pack and the obscure 2018 Destruct-a-saurs line which was cancelled after a limited release. While there’s no telling if these Mattel toys will stand the test of time in regards of return of investment, many fans enjoy the thrill of tracking down these toys.

LEGO sets

Investing in LEGO sets has been on the rise for quite a few years as many of these sets have a high resell value after discontinuation. There are a number of LEGO sets that have released over the years based on the Jurassic franchise. Many of these sets have seen an increase in value of the years, notably the larger sets that are based on scenes from the movies.

Cost & profit

When it comes to the cost of these items, it can vary greatly depending on the rarity and condition of the toy. Some items may be relatively affordable, while others can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. It’s important to do your research and shop around to find the best deals.

As for the eventual profit, it’s impossible to predict the future value of any toy or collectible. While some items may appreciate in value over time, others may not. It’s important to collect items that you enjoy and that have personal value to you, rather than just focusing on their potential future value.

In conclusion, collecting Jurassic Park and Jurassic World toys can be a fun and rewarding hobby. While there are certain items that may be worth investing in, it’s important to collect items that you enjoy and that have personal value to you. Do your research, shop around, and most importantly, have fun!
