Vintage Jurassic Park toy ad from 1993
Posted on — 5 CommentsThis Jurassic Park toy ad appeared in a brochure for a supermarket chain called GB (now part of the Carrefour group). It was released right before the holiday shopping in 1993. Anyway, I still remember flipping through that brochure and just being stunned by that photo. For today’s standards it looks *meh*, but when I was a kid I just could see myself building the same backdrop, put some houseplants and throw some dirt on the floor to get the same set up (but I never did). I loved this particular page so much that I had ripped it out…
Jurassic Park Dinosaurs: Pteranodon
Posted on — Leave a commentThis Pteranodon is part of the Jurassic Park: Dinosaurs toy line from 1999. In fact it’s one of the few I own from that line and it’s not even in its package (I’m a vivid “mint in box” collector). It came with a big lot I purchased years ago. So obviously the big Pteranodon is a repaint of the Jurassic Park series I version. It sports a weird dark brownish with green and creepy bright white eyes. The inside of the left wing features the JP logo (if it’s not Jurassic Park, it’s extinct). The Pteranodon functions are identical to its 1993…
LEGO Jurassic Park III sets
Posted on — 1 CommentLEGO’s all into using IP’s these days for its toy releases. Can you imagine walking into a toy store and not seeing a LEGO set based on Disney, Marvel, DC or Star Wars? And now there are even (very popular) Jurassic World sets. But back in 2001, this wasn’t that obvious. LEGO had just acquired the rights to release sets based on Star Wars, but that was about it. But then the LEGO Movie Maker got released, endorsed by Steven Spielberg. The set came with an actual webcam-type camera that kids could hook up to their computer and make stop motion videos with…

Posted on — 2 CommentsThe Dino Tracker Adventure Set was released in 1997 as a Walmart exclusive in the United States. It’s part of the The Lost World – Jurassic Park line and it features the relatively unknown creatures Estemmenosuchus (yes, that is a spelling error on the package) and Scutosaurus. Both were actually planned to be released in 1994 as part of the Jurassic Park series II toy line, but sadly this never happened. Photos of them were teased on the back of the other series II toys but they never made it out of the Kenner factory until 1997. Copyright Kenner/Hasbro/Universal Pictures/Amblin…
Jurassic World toy store displays
Posted on — 1 CommentIt’s a shame taking photos in a toy store wasn’t that obvious or even considered normal back in 1993, because I loved seeing those shelves stuffed with Jurassic Park toys. These days it’s a lot easier with an iPhone in your pocket, so I took these photos the past few months at different toy stores. These three photos I took today at a Dreamland toy store in Belgium. It shows the standard Hasbro standee. Somehow a Jada RC Jeep Wrangler ended up in there too. The next photo was taken in May 2015 when the toys just hit the stores here.…
Jurassic Park Command Center
Posted on — 1 CommentThe Command Compound was THE toy I wanted as a kid. I wanted it so bad, I dreamed about and kept staring at the HUGE box when I was at the local toy store. I begged for months to get it from my parents but to no prevail. When Christmas came around the corner, there was a large big box under the Christas Tree and I was convinced my parents finally got me my beloved Command Center. However when I unwrapped it, disappointed struck. No Command Center but a Jurassic Park desk chair. A desk chair… I had to fight…
